For Lewis-Gale Medical Center employee Sarah Mays, a typical working day isn’t so typical. After work, Sarah visits her friend Ruth Thomas. They met nine years ago when Ruth, a former Lewis-Gale nurse, needed some extra help getting around. Maybe it’s a trip to the doctor. Or picking up a prescription. Sometimes, Ruth just wants to laugh with her good friend. Whatever the reason, Sarah is there. Why? Because a life’s work is about more than what happens during work hours. And because Ruth needs her. What better reason is there than that?
